EDA Delivered
--------------
1. (C) On April 26, the Government of Nepal (GON) took
delivery of an estimated USD 35 million of military
equipment, including excess defense articles (EDA) and 500
night vision goggles, at Tribhuvan International Airport in
Kathmandu. The EDA consisted of non-lethal equipment, such
as body armor, helmets, boots, tents, cots, and blankets.
The King's February 2005 takeover had delayed delivery.
Comment
--------------
2. (C) We were delighted that the GON finally had the courage
to take delivery of the EDA, despite potential criticism from
the Maoists. So far, there has been no press coverage of the
delivery that could throw a kink into future EDA shipments.
