(C) Mission has followed up with both the Indonesian President's Office and the Department of Foreign Affairs (DEPLU) regarding the GOI's possible participation in the Asia-Pacific Democracy Partnership initiative (APDP). We reviewed with GOI contacts two aspects: possible Indonesian participation in an APDP meeting during the Community of Democracies ministerial in Bamako and Indonesia's possible hosting of the first meeting of APDP in early 2008. We were told that the GOI has not yet made a decision on these matters, although it was aware of the October 12 date for a response in order to allow time for preparation for the Bamako meeting. ¶2. (C) DEPLU promised a response soon, but cautioned that this might not happen until after the Idul Fitri holiday period. (Note: While the GOI has declared October 13-14 as the official holiday period, Mission contacts report that DEPLU and other GOI offices will be effectively shut down from October 12-21.) HEFFERN
