(C) In Mission's latest step to curb terrorist financing in coordination with the GOI, poloff delivered reftel demarche October 4 to Aris Munandar, Deputy Director for Terrorism at the Department of Foreign Affairs (DEPLU). Poloff informed him that three Saudi individuals will be recommended for designation under U.S. domestic and UNSCR 1267 terrorism financing authorities. Poloff urged the GOI to support these designations and take needed action. Poloff also informed Munandar about the possibility of adding two other Saudi individuals to the U.S. domestic and UNSCR 1267 lists in the future. ¶2. (C) Responding, Munandar told poloff that the Indonesian government respects the right of the USG to bring any name to the attention of the UN 1267 committee. The GOI, however, has to look at the humanitarian assistance these people provide around the world and the hardship that a designation can have on the families of the individuals. Poloff forcefully urged Munandar to understand that the U.S. would not be recommending these steps if it did not have solid information and data. Munandar mentioned that the GOI understands the motives of the designations and appreciates the completeness of the investigations. DEPLU--at this time--did not have a formal response as many of its key officials are attending UNGA, but would respond later. HEFFERN
