1. (C) Reports that the Indonesian National Police (INP)
arrested four suspects over the weekend of July 14 ) 15
linked to the Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) terror network remain
unconfirmed by INP Counter-Terrorist units (CT). RSO Kevin
Whitson, Consulate General Surabaya, received information
that the alleged arrests were made on Saturday, July 14, in
Wonosobo area, Central Java. INP Special Detachment 88 and
INP CT Task Force officers contacted by the Mission on July
16 did not confirm the arrests. The Embassy continues to look
into the matter.
2. (C) The four suspects allegedly arrested were: Sarif
Sifron and Deden, apprehended in Desa Mojo Tengah; Lilik
Suherman, apprehended in Desa Garung; and Sukamto,
apprehended in Desa Buntu.
