JAKARTA 388 ¶B. JAKARTA 281 ¶C. SECSTATE 10879 Classified By: Political Officer Daniel Turnbull, for reasons 1.4 (b,d) . ¶1. (U) We met once again with Ramadansyah Hasan of the Directorate for International Security and Disarmament of the Indonesian Department of Foreign Affairs on June 8 to underscore continued U.S. concerns raised in reftel C and to request an update on the Indonesian government's investigation of the matter. (Initial demarche and subsequent follow-up meeting were reported in reftels B and A, respectively.) ¶2. (S) Hasan said the Department of Foreign Affairs had contacted the Department of Defense as well as the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) after our demarche to seek clarification of the information received from the United States. The investigation had revealed that one of the two entities identified in reftel C, specifically P.T. Inter Korana Inti (INKORIN) had sought approval from the Defense Department for the purchase of light weapons from Iran. INKORIN was the local partner of the Iranian Armed Forces' Logistics Export Center (MODLEX). ¶3. (S) Hasan stressed the deal had not taken place (at least to the knowledge of the Indonesian government) and the TNI had "no intention to purchase the military equipment from INKORIN." He also said that Indonesia had had no contact with Singapore Technologies Kinetics, Limited, and had no information regarding that entity beyond that supplied in our demarche. ¶4. (C) Hasan pointed out this case had preceded the adoption of UNSCR 1747, which, he emphasized, Indonesia intended to enforce fully. That said, he stated, the Indonesian government had no intention of importing any weapons from Iran. HEFFERN
