RIGHTS COUNCIL
1. (U) Embassy received a diplomatic note from the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs on June 11, notifying Embassy of Guatemala's
candidacy for the UN Human Rights Council for 2010-2012 and
requesting U.S. support for the elections in May 2010.
2. (U) Guatemala is currently an active member of the Council. It
is committed to continuing cooperation with its international
partners and safeguarding the universal system of human rights.
3. (U) Embassy will fax to WHA/CEN the text of the diplomatic note.
