1. (U) Embassy Grenada's weekly activity report (GWAR) provides
a little detail about events of interest that do not merit
longer reporting at this time.
2. (U) Begin GWAR text:
A. Urias Peters Wins Again
Under the Shadow of Darkness, Peters' radio drama about the
impact of HIV/AIDS on families and communities, won four
regional awards last week, including the overall award for `best
entry' throughout the entire English speaking Caribbean
including Belize and Suriname. The program had won first place
at the national level competition earlier in the year.
Under the Shadows of Darkness received support from the U.S.
Ambassador's Cultural Fund and was launched on January 19, 2007
by U.S. Ambassador to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean Mary
Ourisman.
B. Other Unions Rally Behind Teachers
The Technical and Allied Workers Union (TAWU) pledged its
support to the Grenada Union of Teachers (GUT) in their fight to
get the government to honor a signed contract with teachers. The
Trade Union Congress (TUC) the umbrella body for unions, last
week added its voice in calling on the government to honor the
agreement. The Minister for Labor called the actions of the
teachers `unfair' and their accusations inaccurate since the
government was in discussions with the union attempting to
resolve their differences.

reappear early in the new year.
