1. (U) POLOFF delivered points contained in reftel demarches
on November 27 to Karen Miller in the Americas Division of
the Department of Foreign Affairs. Miller welcomed the
information and told POLOFF that Ireland was concerned about
the recent developments in Venezuela and was monitoring the
situation closely through the EU. She added that while she
was not aware of any upcoming discussions on the issue at the
EU, the agenda could well change.
2. (U) Miller noted that it is often difficult to obtain
up-to-date information on the situation directly, as Ireland
does not have a diplomatic presence in Venezuela, and
therefore she appreciated the new facts provided in the
demarche. (Note: Ireland's diplomatic representation in
Venezuela is handled by their Embassy in Mexico City.)
