CONFERENCE

1. (U) EMB Dhaka requests funding for Luke Zahner, POLOFF
responsible for human rights and democracy issues, to attend
the DRL conference being held in Washington July 18-20, 2007.
Airfare from Dhaka to Washington and return is approximately
$4,300 and per diem costs approximately $1,700.
2. (U) EMB Dhaka considers Mr. Zahner's attendance at the
conference to be beneficial in providing Post's perspective
on the current democracy and human rights situation in
Bangladesh. Mr. Zahner has also been invited to speak at the
conference on a panel dealing with elections. Funding
assistance from DRL will enable Post to keep limited funds
available for in-country human rights-related travel through
the end of the current fiscal year.
