(C) On July 17, Directorate General of Forces Intelligence
Counterterrorism Chief Brigadier General Amin, told us that
Hasina was arrested and charged with one count of extortion
on July 16. He said that there were many other charges that
might be filed later. News reports on July 16 that she was
charged with murder were, in fact, inaccurate. The murder
charges relate to a April 22 Dhaka court issued warrant for
the arrest of Hasina in a murder case filed by a member of
Jamaat Islami. Amin suggested that this case would be
pursued at a later date against Hasina.
