1. (U) Per reftel A, Post provides the following
information regarding tobacco-related activities at Post
since January 1, 2004.
2. (U) In October 2006, USAID Health and Population Officer
received a visit from Lutgard K. Kagaruki, Excecutive
Secretary of the Tanzania Tobacco Control Forum. Ms.
SIPDIS
Kagaruki requested USG assistance for a national seminar on
tobacco control, to examine the health, societal and
environmental impact of smoking in Tanzania. Health and
Population Officer forwarded this request to
USAID/GH/HIDN/NUT which informed Post that financial
resources were not available to assist.
3. (U) Post took no action on behalf of tobacco or tobacco
products. There were no cases when the tobacco industry or
tobacco growers requested assistance from U.S. Embassy
personnel, other than passort of visa assistance.
4. (U) Post disseminated reftel B to all mission employees
on January 26, 2007.
