1. President Jakaya Kikwete sent a condolence letter to
President Bush on behalf of the people and Government of
Tanzania following the death of former United States
President Gerald Ford. The letter was transmitted by
Diplomatic Note AB 428/710/01 from the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs on 27 December 2006. The complete text follows (Para
2).


2. BEGIN TEXT OF DIPLOMATIC NOTE:

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International
Cooperation of the United Republic of Tanzania presents its
compliments to the Embassy of the United States of AMERICA
and has the honor to request the esteemed Embassy to transmit
the following message of condolence from H.E. Jakaya Mrisho
Kikwete, President of the United Republic of Tanzania, to
H.E. George W. Bush, President of the United States of
America:

His Excellency George W. Bush
President of the United States of AMERICA
Washington D.C. USA

Your Excellency,

I have received with great sadness announcement of the
passing away of the former President of the United States of
America, H.E. Gerald Ford.

I wish on behalf of the people and Government of Tanzania and
on my own behalf to extend to you and through you to the
people, Government and, indeed, the bereaved family our
heartfelt condolences of the great loss to your country.

The former President Gerald Ford will be greatly remembered
as a statesman who worked with dedication and devotion for
the Government of the United States of AMERICA as well as for
the entire international community. May God rest his soul in
eternal peace.

Please accept, Your Excellency, the assurances of my highest
consideration.
