NEW LAW BEIING USED TO PROSECUTE

1. (SBU) According to Judicial Police Director Ndoye, Senegal has
successfully prosecuted two traffickers under the 2005 TIP law. Two
Senegalese marabouts, Serigne Mamadou Thiam and Abdou Faye, were
each sentenced to 18 months for sending boys from Senegal to Mali,
with the intention of sending them on to Cote d'Ivoire as talibes.
2. (U) In addition, the courts sentenced Christian Daniel Mallet, a
French national born on April 29, 1945, to one year for pedophilia.
3. (U) COMMENT: These prosecutions are in addition to those
detailed in Ref A. END COMMENT.
