General of UN and Multilateral Affairs at the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs, on July 12. Rodrigo acknowledged that the
IOM Director General position has historically been filled by
an American and said he supports continued U.S. leadership.
He confirmed that the Government of Sri Lanka likely will
support USG endorsed candidate Ambassador William Swing, and
would not consider supporting an independent American
candidate.
