(SBU) Ambassador Blake met Foreign Minister Rohitha
Bogollagama and Foreign Secretary Palitha Kohona on February
23 and delivered reftel demarche. Kohona indicated that Sri
Lanka should be able to endorse the Global Initiative to
Combat Nuclear Terrorism. He noted Sri Lanka already had an
international legal commitment to combat nuclear terrorism.
PolOff followed up with MFA Director General for UN and
Multilateral Affairs Maduwegedera on March 15. Maduwegedera
said his office was in the process of obtaining the views of
the relevant Government of Sri Lanka (GSL) offices and would
provide an update on the GSL position soon. Post will report
septel on any further information received.
