(C) During a February 12 meeting with the Director of
International Legal Affairs Hisham Sorour, the Minister
Counselor for Economic and Political Affairs conveyed the
U.S. desire to renew the Article 98 Agreement with Egypt for
an indefinite period. Sorour gave no indication of Egypt's
position on an Article 98 renewal but promised to discuss the
matter with appropriate officials and respond in the near
future. We will follow up with Sorour in the coming days.
