1. (C) A Directorate of Military Intelligence official told
us that plans to facilitate the return of approximately 2,000
Hajjis to Gaza are unresolved. They said the GOE wishes to
use Karem Shalom to return the pilgrims, but that no
agreement has been reached. During a briefing at the Rafah
border crossing on December 12, another LAWIO official said
he did not know what plans had been made for the return of
the pilgrims. We will continue to try and confirm this
information.
2. (C) An Israeli Embassy official in Cairo told us that he
was not aware of any coordination on this issue.
