(SBU) D/POLCONS delivered reftel demarche on October 1 to MFA
Director for Human Rights Brandusa Predescu. Predescu noted
that Romania was working within the EU on a coordinated
approach. Romania, as a member and chair of the UNHRC has
called a special session to discuss Burma/Myanmar. She
assured us that GOR supports all of the points conveyed in
the US demarche. She noted that the USG can move with more
alacrity in imposing sanctions and tightening visa
restrictions than most countries in the EU.
