(C) Threats from Darfur rebel groups against the first
tranche of Chinese engineers deployed in Darfur will not
delay the deployment of the larger remaining force of
engineers, MFA International Organizations and Conferences
Department UN Division Deputy Director Sun Xiaobo told PolOff
November 29. Sun said China "is not frightened" by the
threats, but that he could not say what would happen in the
event of an actual incident involving the engineers. He
urged the United States to use its influence with the rebel
groups and thanked us for our support so far, including a
public statement condemning the threats against the Chinese
force.
