1. (C) POLOFF delivered reftel message encouraging Chinese
officials to investigate past and future shipments of sodium
perchlorate to entities in Iran designated in the Annexes to
UNSCRs 1737 and 1747 to MFA Arms Control and Disarmament
Department Missile and Conventional Weapons Third Secretary
He Yi on May 22.


2. (C) He Yi had no immediate response to the information but
promised that China will investigate the cases. POLOFF
stressed that several of the shipments were scheduled to
occur soon and urged China to take prompt action.
