(C) Post contacted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Department of International Organizations Human Rights
division April 5 to express concern about the reports
of heavy fines and other penalties being applied to
Rebiya Kadeer's family and their businesses in Urumqi,
Xinjiang. We urged the Chinese Government to ensure
that the Kadeer family is treated fairly and that due
process of law is observed in any related legal
proceedings, including the pending case of Kadeer's
son Ablikim Abdiriyim (ref B). Xu Jing, an MFA Human
Rights officer, said she currently has no information
on these issues. She stated that she would share our
inquiry with other relevant Government offices and
would inform us of any updates.
