(S) China will investigate the additional information provided by the United States regarding efforts by the Pakistan Heavy Mechanical Complex to procure ring-rolling and flow forming machines in China, MFA Arms Control and Disarmament Department Missile Division Acting Deputy Director He Yi stated in response to Poloff's delivery on February 15 of reftel points. ¶2. (S) In response to Poloff's request for an update on China's investigation of this activity, He Yi said that he lacked instructions to share information with us at this time, but thought that he would be able to provide a report in the near future. POLOFF stressed that the information we are sharing with China is extremely detailed and more than sufficient to sustain a Chinese investigation. This is not the first time that the United States has brought the activities of these Chinese firms to the attention of the MFA. He Yi acknowledged this, saying that he recalled us first mentioning the China National Nonferrous Metals Import Export Company with China in 2005.
