1. (U) Having previously provided the Thai Ministry of
Foreign Affairs International Organizations Department with a
diplomatic note concerning the election for the Committee on
the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) and a copy of
Ambassador Pierre-Richard Prosper's curriculum vitae, we
called on Department of International Organizations, Division
of International Organizations Administrative Affairs
representative Prang Anussorn-Nitisara, on November 21 and
made the points outlined in reftel.
2. (C) Prang advised that Thailand had not yet finalized its
decision on whom it would vote for in the January 2008 CERD
election, but agreed to take the U.S. position into
consideration. Prang commented that Ambassador Prosper's
curriculum vitae was impressive and that his experience would
be an asset to the committee. Prang believed Thailand would
support Ambassador Prosper's nomination.
