1. (C) The Ambassador on November 16 drew from reftel points
to urge MFA Permanent Secretary Virasakdi Futrakul to ensure
RTG support for UN Third Committee resolutions on Iran,
Belarus, Burma, and North Korea. In response, Virasakdi said
the MFA headquarters in Bangkok was still in consultations
with its UN mission. Virasakdi declined to commit to a
position on no-action motions but, citing 2006 votes as
precedent, said that the RTG would likely not oppose the
country-specific resolutions if the no-action motions were to
fail. (In 2006, the RTG abstained.)
2. (SBU) Post supplemented the Ambassador's efforts by
discussing reftel points at the working level with the MFA's
International Organizations department.
