1. (C) Given the September 19 coup in Thailand and our
sanctions against Thailand that have curtailed many of our
mil-mil programs, Post believes it is inappropriate at this
time to ask the Royal Thai Government to consider another
deployment to OIF. Were we to ask the Thai to provide
another contingent, we are reasonably certain that the would
be unable to do so given the caretaker status of the
military-led government and the increased level of violence
their security forces face from insurgents in the southern
part of the country.
