1. (C) Ambassador conveyed reftel points to MFA permanent
secretary Krit Garnjana-Gooncharn on January 11. Permsec
SIPDIS
Krit conferred with his ministry's delegation in Cebu; he
subsequently called to tell us that the Thai delegation did
not anticipate any ASEAN statement opposing the UNSC
resolution would be issued at the summit. Krit also noted
that Thailand would follow ASEAN consensus on this issue.
2. (C) COMMENT: Permsec Krit's comments were consistent with
the responses we have gotten from the Thai each time we have
raised the UNSC issue in the past. Thailand has no intention
of leaping to Burma's defense, but is also not prepared to
take a position in favor of the resolution. End comment.
