Reftel reported the approval by the Thai Cabinet of
amendments to the Foreign Business Act (FBA). Some Thai
media on January 10 reported that as part of the FBA
amendments, the Thai Government would no longer honor the
services provisions of the U.S.-Thai Treaty of Amity and
Economic Relations (AER). In response to our inquiries,
senior officials in the Ministry of Commerce have assured us
that these media reports are incorrect, and that the RTG
continues to honor without changes the provisions of the AER.
