1. Per REFTEL A American Embassy Athens closed to the public
and all non-essential security personnel at 0600 hrs local on
April 25, 2007. All Embassy personnel were contacted through
the Emergency Notification System, with a back-up message
sent vis SMS, to avoid the Embassy and surrounding area until
further notice. A warden message was also distributed
through American Citizen Services. Although there remains an
ongoing investigation into the threat against the Embassy, a
meeting of the core EAC concluded that an attack no longer
appears imminent based on the initial results of the
investigation. American Embassy Athens is prepared to open
to the public for business as usual on the next regularly
scheduled work day, April 26, 2007. In accordance with
REFTEL B, the Embassy requests Department approval to return
to normal status.
