1. (SBU) PolOff and visiting DeskOff delivered reftel
dipnote, points, and CV of Felice Gaer to MFA D1 Directorate
for International Organizations Deputy Head Ambassador
Alexandros Rallis. Rallis said he would forward the
materials to the FM's Cabinet and to the Greek mission in
Geneva with the recommendation that one of Greece's votes be
cast for Ms. Gaer.
2. (SBU) Rallis also informed us that a Greek candidate, Dr.
Maria Piniou-Kalli, was also running for one of the five
seats on the Committee Against Torture (CAT). Rallis
provided a CV for Piniou-Kalli, a copy of which post will fax
to EUR/SE. Highlights of Piniou-Kalli's CV include:
-- MD in Internal Pathology;
-- Founder and Medical Director of the Center for Torture
Victims in Athens since 1989;
-- President of the International Rehabilitation Council for
Torture Victims, 1998-2003;
-- Founding Member of the Rehabilitation Center for Torture
Victims of Thessalonica, 1997;
-- General Secretary of the Middle East & North Africa
Network for the Rehabilitation of Torture Victims since 1996;
-- Founding Member and General Secretary of the Balkan
Network for the Prevention of Torture and the Rehabilitation
of Torture Victims, 1993-1996.
