EconOff met with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Director of
Special Affairs Gustavo Gomez Coma November 6, with the
Director of the Secretariat to Combat Money Laundering
(SEPRELAD) Gabriel Gonzalez November 7, and with Central Bank
officials Benigno Lopez, Edgar Paredes, and Oscar Boidanich
November 12, and delivered reftel demarche. Gomez said his
office will stress the importance of the FATF statement to
relevant government and private sector entities in the
financial sector. Gonzalez indicated that his office will
monitor banks, application of FATF guidance and will
independently investigate for any Iran-related financial
activity. Lopez, Paredes, and Boidanich were fully aware of
UNSCR 1737; all stressed the importance of applying the FATF
guidance, and will instruct banks to closely track and
monitor any financial activity with Iran-related business.
