Post sent the MFA a dipnote containing the draft 505
agreement on GPOI and other programs on January 10. MFA
officials have since requested we provide an unofficial
translation as a courtesy and to facilitate review. They
expressed concern about mistranslating and consequently
misunderstanding important provisions or terms. The
Paraguayan MFA does not have an office dedicated to
translating such documents and is averse to relying on an
outside translator to produce a translation for an agreement.
Post requests guidance about whether we can prepare an
unofficial translation or if the Department could provide us
with a translation that meets its requirements. Please
advise ASAP.
