1. (U) Post nominates Senator Ana Maria Mendoza de Acha, the
2nd Vice President of the Paraguayan Senate. Acha has
championed women,s issues, human rights, trafficking in
persons, education and prison reform since she entered the
Congress in 2003. Acha is a member of the center-right
Patria Querida (The Beloved Fatherland Party). Although her
party representatives opposed the extension of A and T
immunities to USG personnel included in joint U.S. -
Paraguayan military excersises, Acha remains an excellent
contact of the EMBASSY and her party shares our commitment to
stronger democratic institutions and combatting corruption.
Post requests your serious consideration of this nomination
awarding her this honor would advance U.S. interests.
