1. A student from Turkmenistan at Oberlin College
Conservatory of Music, Farhad Khudiyev, won two gold medals
at the prestigious Fischoff National Chamber Music
Competition (see http://www.fischoff.org/). He was a member
of the Primo Trio, which won the Senior Strings division and
overall grand prize in the competition.

2. Farhad is not the only musician in this remarkable
family. Charge met with him and his brother Ildar on August

8. Ildar and a third brother have also been in the United
State studying music at the Cleveland Institute of Music and
the Boston Conservatory of Music. They also have a cousin
studying at Interlochen. All are on full scholarships.

3. Farhad and Ildar are from a family of Soviet
intelligentsia. Their father was an economist and their
mother a cardiologist. In the 1990s, the family hosted a
Peace Corps couple who told them about Interlochen and helped
them send audition tapes that won both brothers scholarships.
Ildar has just graduated from the Boston Conservatory, and
Farhad is returning to Oberlin.
