(SBU) Embassy passed reftel information regarding the newly adopted UN Security Council Resolution 1747, as well as the English-language text of the resolution via diplomatic note to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on March 27. On the same day, Acting Charge d'Affaires orally delivered a summary of the demarche to Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Foreign Minister Rashit Meredov, highlighting that the resolution calls upon UN member states to report to the Sanctions Committee on their steps to implement the resolution's provisions. The Charge urged the Government of Turkmenistan to do so. ¶2. (SBU) The Deputy Chairman noted that Turkmenistan has always followed its international obligations as a UN member-state and "has not given a reason to question this."
