(C) We presented reftel points on Iran's failure to comply
with UNSCR 1737 to Aziz Sevi, MFA Iran Desk Officer, and Bora
Kerimoglu, Chief of Section, MFA Department of Arms Control
and Disarmament February 27. They assured us that the GOT
was fully committed to enforcing UNSCR 1737. The Prime
Ministerial decree announcing the sanctions was almost ready,
they reported, and the MFA is coordinating with over 10 other
GOT agencies and departments regarding implementation.
Turkey will continue to do its part, they said, and will seek
every opportunity to engage the Iranian leadership to
continue to urge that it act responsibly and in compliance
with UN resolutions and the IAEA.
