(S) MFA Arms Control Department Head Serhan Yigit notified us
on January 19 that his office had contacted Norm Limited, the
Turkish company listed in ref b as having offered to purchase
NBC protective suits destined for the Turkish military from
Iran, to determine whether the company had purchased such
suits. According to Yigit, Norm Limited management confirmed
correspondence with Iran about such a purchase but stated
that the sale was never consummated and that the company was
no longer interested in buying protective suits. Yigit said
the MFA was confident that no transaction had taken place and
that none was planned.
