1. (C) Thamer Adwan, Director of Foreign Minister Khatib's
private office, reported on October 30 that the FM (currently
in China with King Abdullah) welcomes the opportunity to
participate in the proposed Istanbul side meeting on Lebanon
(reftel).
2. (U) Adwan noted that Khatib's schedule in Istanbul is
tight: he arrives Friday afternoon November 2 and departs
mid-day Saturday November 3. Thus Adwan recommended that the
meeting be scheduled for Friday evening or early Saturday
morning. He identified as the best point of contact for
scheduling the meeting Muhib Nimrat, U.S. deskoff in the
private office, who will accompany Khatib to Istanbul.
