1. (C) Jordanian Foreign Minister Abdelelah al-Khatib on
October 4 formally requested that the Ambassador convey the
GOJ's desire that the USG file a "Statement of Interest" to
the relevant U.S. court in response to Ahmad Chalabi's appeal
of the August 2007 dismissal of his lawsuit against Jordan.
Similar GOJ requests in the past (Refs A and B) for USG
statements during the original suit have been turned down,
but the GOJ is under the impression that the Department would
be more open to involvement at the appellate level.
