(SBU) Poloff delivered reftel demarche to Muhib Nimrat,
Americas Desk Officer in the Foreign Minister's private
office, on September 19. Nimrat said that an internal MFA
recommendation would be made by International Organizations
Chief Ayman Al Aamiry for the Foreign Minister's approval.
While Nimrat was unaware of an official MFA position, he said
he anticipated no problems regarding the GOJ's ultimate
support of Ms. Gaer's candidacy for the United Nations
Committee Against Torture.
(SBU) Post believes a follow-up call from IO A/S Silverberg
would be welcome, and would be most effective if made to
Jordanian Ambassador to the U.S. Prince Zeid bin Ra'ad, who
given his long UN posting, probably follows these issues
closely.
