1. (C) PolCouns delivered reftel demarche to the Director of
the Foreign Minister's Office, Thamer Al-Adwan, on Steptember
18. Adwan noted that the GOJ supports the Tribunal, but
because of regional sensitivities, is taking a wait and see
attitude and wants its support to be as "neutral" as
possible. He did not indicate whether Jordan would offer any
financial contribution.
2. (C) Comment: Behind the scenes, the King is a strong
supporter of the Tribunal, which he views as the single most
effective tool we have to pressure Syrian leaders.
