1. (U) Two inmates, Ma'adh Breizat and Sa'ad Fakhri Yunis al
Na'imi, escaped June 19 from Jordan's Jweideh prison - a
correctional facility located approximately 20 kilometers
south of Amman. According to press reports, the inmates
managed to escape by hiding themselves among families who
were visiting other inmates at the prison.
2. (SBU) Jordan's State Security Court (SSC) sentenced Ma'adh
Breizat to 20 years of hard labor in September 2006 for his
involvement in a 2005 plot to attack Americans working at the
Joint International Police Training center (ref A). Post
submitted Breizat to the Visa Viper program in September 2006
(ref B).
3. (SBU) The SSC sentenced Sa'ad Fakhri Yunis al Na'imi to
life imprisonment in April 2007 for his involvement in a 2006
plot that targeted Jordan's Queen Alia International Airport,
Aqaba and Dead Sea hotels (ref C). Post submitted al Na'imi
to the Visa Viper program in May 2006 (ref D).
4. (SBU) Jordan's Public Security Directorate (PSD) and
General Intelligence Directorate (GID) are coordinating their
search for the two escapees. On June 19, after authorities
unsuccessfully searched the Breizat home, Breizat's father
told reporters that his son should surrender to authorities.
