1. (SBU) Arab media reported that during an open session of
Jordan's state security court March 7, a prosecutor announced
that three men charged with possessing illegal weapons and
attempting to set fire to a liquor store had also discussed
among themselves the idea of assassinating the President
during his visit to Jordan in late November, as well as
attacking American and Danish embassies in Amman. (Note:
Denmark has an honorary consul, but no Embassy, in Jordan).
A Jordanian journalist who attended the hearing told post
that the three live in Zarqa, north of Amman. During the
proceedings, there was no mention of the three having been in
Amman during the President's visit.
