1. Ghanaian President John Agyekum Kufuor came to the
Embassy January 4 to sign the condolence book opened in
memory of the late former President Gerald R. Ford.
President Kufuor wrote: "On behalf of the government and
people of the Republic of Ghana, I express condolences to the
government and bereaved family of the United States of
America on the passing of President Gerald Ford. He served
his great nation with merit. May he rest in peace. John A.
Kufuor, President of the Republic of Ghana". Kufuor was
accompanied by Foreign Minister Nana Akufo-Addo and several
senior members of his presidential staff. The condolence
book signing was extensively covered by local newspapers,
television and radio stations.
2. Also signing the condolence book were Ambassadors or
their representatives from Libya, Mali, Algeria, Burkina
Faso, Cote d'Ivoire, Zimbabwe, Niger, Egypt, Morocco,
Ethiopia, Netherlands, Guinea, Republic of Korea, Canada,
Bulgaria, China, the EU, and India.
