The Deputy Speaker, Representative Babangida Nguroje (PDP, Taraba State) also stepped down. Both Etteh and Nguroje have been under investigation for allegedly breaching House rules and awarding contracts worth $5 million for the renovation of their official residences and the purchase of vehicles (reftel). A House of Representatives staffer told Poloff that Representative Tsegba will preside over the election of a new permanent SIPDIS Speaker tomorrow when the House reconvenes. The position is "zoned" to the Southwest, so the new Speaker is expected be a Yoruba. PIASCIK
