1. (SBU) The GON has prepared a policy document for President
Yar'adua and the Economic Management Team's approval recommending
that Nigeria agree to a second IMF Policy Support Instrument (PSI)
covering 2008-2010. According to Tunde Lawal, Deputy Director of
Growth and Real Sector Development at the National Planning
Commission, a document setting out the parameters acceptable to the
Nigerian government was completed on September 30. Amendments and
approval are being discussed with the Economic Management Team this
week. Lawal reported that the GON hopes to finalize and receive
Presidential approval of the PSI II soon for discussions with IMF
officials during the World Bank/IMF October meetings in Washington,
DC.
