¶1. (C) DCM discussed reftel demarche with Acting MFA Under
Secretary Tareq Al-Haidan, urging the UAE to provide
SIPDIS
immediate financial assistance via the African Union to
support the AU Mission in Somalia. Al-Haidan replied that
the UAE has received a number of requests for assistance to
Somalia from various parties. He added that he thought the
situation in Somalia was improving and that the UAE hoped to
help.
