(S) The UAE's Special Operations Command informed the Embassy's U.S. Liaison Office on July 1, 2007 that a UAE solder in Afghanistan was missing along with his night vision device. We do not have a record of the NVG in question. It was not sold via FMS, but may have been sold via direct commercial sale. ¶2. (SBU/NF) Begin text: Greetings from the UAE Special Operations Command On 12 June 2007, an incident occurred during which a soldier from UAE Task Force 9 went missing in Afghanistan. Among the items in this individual's possession at this time was a Generation III Individual Night Vision Device, serial number ¶06723.
