SUBJECT: CROATIAN PM SANADER ASSURES AMBASSADOR ABOUT GLAVAS
REF: ZAGREB 1380
Classified By: Ambassador Robert A. Bradtke for reasons 1.4(b) and (d).
1. (C) Ambassador told PM Ivo Sanader November 20 that the
USG was watching carefully the progress of the Glavas case
(reftel) and how the parliament dealt with it. He encouraged
Sanader to promote a solution that preserved the principles
of rule of law and equality of all Croatians before the law.
Making the wrong decision in this case could severely damage
Croatia's reputation abroad.
2. (C) Sanader responded that there will be a solution that
addresses all of our concerns and with which we will be
satisfied. He reiterated that there would be no change in
his government's policy of reform. (Note: Parliament is now
expected to consider Glavas's immunity on November 22.)
