C O N F I D E N T I A L YEREVAN 001612 SIPDIS SIPDIS DEPT FOR EUR/CARC, EUR/PGI E.O. 12958: DECL: 11/15/2016 TAGS: PHUM PREL KTIA UN AM SUBJECT: DEMARCHES DELIVERED: UNGA HUMAN RIGHTS RESOLUTIONS REF: A) STATE 182267 B) STATE 184178 C) STATE 187018 Classified By: Poloff Masha Herbst for reasons 1.4 (b, d). (C) Following the receipt of ref C, we followed up with Valery Mkrtumian, head of the MFA's International Organizations Department, to whom we delivered refs A and B points on November 3 and 7. Mkrtumian said Armenia would not support the U.S.- and Canada-sponsored resolutions regarding Iran and Belarus. He also said, however, that Armenia would vote against the Iran-sponsored resolution on Canada, and that the Armenian delegation would do its best to try to nip the retaliatory Belarus-sponsored resolutions in the bud. Mkrtumian said that, should the Belarusian resolutions go to a vote, Armenia would vote against them. We will continue to seek opportunities to push the Armenians on the Belarusian resolutions per ref C. GODFREY
