1. (SBU) We delivered reftel summary to Karine Afrikian, head
of the United States and Canada desk at the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs, and asked for suggestions on possible
projects to promote the empowerment of women. After the
meeting and at Afrikian's request, we sent her an electronic
version of the summary for distribution to women
parliamentarians.
2. (SBU) Per reftel request, the following are Armenian
leaders who have demonstrated interest in women's issues:
- Justice Minister Davit Harutyunian
- Culture and Youth Affairs Minister Hasmik Poghosyan (a
woman)
- Labor and Social Affairs Deputy Minister Tamara Gevorgyan
- Lala Ghazaryan, head of the Department of Family, Women and
Children's Issues at the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs
(a woman)
- Hranush Kharatyan, head of the Department for National
Minorities and Religious Affairs
- Republican (ruling coalition) MP Hranush Hakobyan (a woman)
- Lilit Shakaryan of the MFA's International Organizations
Department (point of contact for women's issues at the MFA).
